Let me just say this before I go ahead; when you start adding foods like kale to your smoothies, you’ve officially joined the healthy lifestyle club. You definitely need big guts to swallow a mélange (Yay! I learnt the use of that word from my sisters english website) of fruits and green leaves!
At the beginning of my weightloss journey, I swore I would never try such unconventional smoothie combos EVER! I mean why would I sabotage the sweetness of pineapple with uncooked vegetables like leaks, celery, spinach, kale or worst still bitterleaf? Yes they are healthy but must we eat them raw or combine them in a smoothie to get most out of these foods?
Then I quickly found out that to get the most nutrients out of our foods, they are best eaten entirely raw. So that’s how my love for smoothieing (I just made up a new word) began. When you smoothie your fruits or veggies, there is a minimal loss of nutrients. I won’t lie, I tried! Several times, doing several different fruits and veggie combos and most of the time I felt that I was torturing myself! Then I made this exotic fruit smoothie:
You see, there are smoothies and there are SMOOTHIES. The great thing about this smoothie is, it is a mélange (I just love this new word) of my favorite fruits paw paw ( or papaya) and pineapple and just a handful of kale.

Making the smoothie was done in a breeze. If paw paw and pineapple is in season, then you are good to go. Just blend half of each seperately in your food processor, then blend a handful of fresh or frozen kale. Then layer your fruits and veggie in a glass jar and squeez some lemon on the top.
This is the perfect breakfast after a workout. It can also make a light refreshing afternoon snack in summer plus it is saturated fat free, cholesterol free, naturally sweetened, vegetarian, vegan, paleo friendly and the best is, nothing else measures up to its zeeliciousness!

fresh Kale, handful
fresh Spinach, handful
- Cut and dice papaya, pineapple, kale and spinach.
- Seperately blend fruits and vegetables.
- In a glass jar or bowl, layer fruits and vegetables as desired.
- Squeeze lemon on top and enjoy.
