A nutrient-rich salad made from unripe plantains, fresh vegetables immersed in a creamy mayonnaise-mustard dressing. Drool!
What’s a macédoine salad?
A macédoine is a French word for a salad made from small pieces of fruits or vegetables usually served cold as an hors-d’oeuvre (Engl. appetizer or starter dish). It is also known as Macedonian salad in English. The most common vegetables used are peas, green beans, corn and Irish potatoes and these are generally cooked before they are mixed with mayonnaise, mustard and other spices and herbs.
How to make Sympli plantain Macédoine
For my macédoine salad, I replaced Irish potatoes with Sympli unripe plantain.
- First, because I love plantains. For obvious reasons.
- Second, because Sympli unripe plantains have already been peeled and sliced making life easier for me.
- Third, because unripe plantains are a great food for a healthy diet.
Then, I used a variety of my favorite veggies like avocado, carrots, bell peppers and even added some fresh prawns which I boiled with salt, and boiled eggs immersed in a mayonnaise and mustard dressing, a drizzle of avocado oil and some salt and pepper. A combination of healthy goodness.

Sympli plantain Macédoine salad is a nutrient-rich salad made from unripe plantains, fresh vegetables in a creamy mayonnaise-mustard dressing.
- 1/4 packet Sympli unripe plantain salted and cooked
- 1/2 cup sweet corn
- 1 red bell pepper chopped
- 1 avocado cubed
- 1 cup prawns salted and cooked
- 1/2 cup carrots sliced
- 2 eggs hard-boiled
- 1/2 red onion
- 4 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tsp mustard
- 1 tbsp oil avocado or olive oil
- Salt & pepper to taste
Do not thaw your Sympli unripe plantains.
Salt and cook from frozen till soft. Set aside and allow to cool.
Hard-boil your eggs and allow to cool.
Salt and boil your prawns. Set aside and allow to cool.
Chop or dice bell pepper, carrots, eggs, and avocado.
Slice onions into thin slices.
Add mayonnaise, mustard, oil, salt, and pepper into a bowl.
Mix well till creamy.
Add dressing to the veggies and stir well.
Chill before serving over romaine, lettuce or spinach greens and drizzle some more mayonnaise dressing on top.
