Thanksgiving is more than enjoying delicious food like grilled turkey or coleslaw and spending time with the family. It is the perfect opportunity to reminisce about what God has blessed us with and show gratitude for the many wonders He has done, is doing and what He will do in the future. There’s so much I’m thankful to God for. I cannot even begin to count my blessings.
Many think to be blessed means to have a huge bank account, ride expensive cars and live in luxurious homes. I have realized that the greatest blessing is the privilege to be called a child of God. Being saved by Grave and redeemed by the blood of the lamb, slain for me. There is nothing I am grateful for more than being chosen as God’s beloved. A gift, I am not even worthy to receive.
10 things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving
So this Thanksgiving, while I enjoy and spend time with my loved ones eating this 3-course low carb/keto-approved Thanksgiving menu, I want to share 10 things I am thankful to God for with you.
1. Grateful for life
There is a saying that goes thus; ‘so long as there is life, there is hope’. This is one of the mottos I live by. No matter what comes our way, if we learn to appreciate life, the fact that we are living, this will not only have a positive effect on how we face our trials, we will learn to embrace our destinies and make the best of every situation.
2. Content for where I am in life
I wouldn’t want it any other way. I believe that I am exactly where I should be in my life right now, doing what God has called me to do, the best way I can. To some, I might have gotten married late or had children late but I know for sure that God’s timing is ALWAYS right.
“Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrew 13:5
3. For an amazing husband
In fact, I cannot thank God enough for apostle. To think that I almost didn’t marry him because I was walking by sight. I thank God for the Holy Spirit who convinced me apostle was the one. I will marry him all over again if I had to for there is no man as patient, helpful and loving as my Trésor.
4. Wonderful kids
I lost 3, and gained 3 wonderfully, fearfully-made, Jesus-loving children. I could not ask for anything else. Now God has blessed me with a 4th child. More about this in another post. Grateful!!!
5. My family is the best
And I mean my biological as well as my family in Christ. I am thankful for my parents who worked so hard to raise and train me, for my aunts and uncles for contributed to my success in one way or the other. Thankful for my host family who gave me the opportunity to study in the white man’s land. When I think about my Christian family, I can only stand in awe of God’s goodness. Not forgetting you guys, my virtual family. You guys have been my encouragement and my number 1 fans. If God should never bless me ever again, He has done enough!
6. For food on my table
Many of us take for granted the fact that we can walk into a (super)market and get to choose what we want to eat, swipe a card and get groceries. This is such a privilege to be able to eat. My God provides all my needs according to His riches in glory and for me, this is a big deal!
7. The ability to live my passion
To tell you the truth, it is an honor, a total pleasure and a great privilege to live my passion through this blog, blog posts, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Sharing the knowledge I have acquired from coursework and sharing my life with you all is a dream come true. And above all else, knowing that I can add value to someone’s life, encourage someone or build someone up is just a huge deal for me. Indeed, I am blessed beyond measure.
8. For the trials, I have to face
I have learned that troubles will come, winds will blow, mountains shall rise even for the faithful and God-fearing. But I also know that trials are a test of our faith in God, some to build us up, others to draw us even closer to God. And because I also know that God will never leave or forsake His own, I rest in the assurance of the truth that His Grace is sufficient for me.
9. Grateful for what is yet to come
For God knows the plans He has for my life and these plans are to prosper me. So yielding to God’s will, I look forward to what is in store for me and mine.
10. I am alive
Yes, I said this before. It is by Grace that I run this race and I am truly grateful.
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? Please share in the comments area below. And oh, I made this Thanksgiving veggie platter to trick my kiddies to eat more veggies. Visually appealing huh? The recipe is below.
Thanksgiving Veggie Turkey Platter
A vegetarian alternative to Thanksgiving turkey. Great as a snack or to lure children to eat more veggies during the Thanksgiving celebrations.
- 6 small carrots
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 green pepper
- 4 tbsp mayonnaise homemade or store-bought
- 1 tsp mustard dijon
Wash and peel carrots. Cut into 3
Deseed bell peppers and slice thinly.
Mix mayonnaise and dijon and place in a bowl.
Arrange veggies on a large platter starting with cucumbers, then carrots, next the red and finally the green bell peppers.
Cut the base of a red bell pepper to make the turkey's face. Carve out the beak using a third of a carrot. Use 2 locust beans seed to make the eyes. Enjoy.
