I gained around 20 kgs during pregnancy and lost 10 kgs after birth. I was getting frustrated because each time I got on the scale, I weighed 80 kg. I was convinced that my scale was faulty because I was breastfeeding and should be losing the extra weight. My white colleagues who had children at the same time with me were already back in form. This kept me thinking and I concluded that my african genes are to be blamed for my inability to lose “baby weight” while breastfeeding.
