One of the foods that made me gain a lot of weight is spaghetti. I couldn’t get enough of it, especially the one made with refined flour. I tried cutting it completely from my diet and realised that was the wrong way to approach the problem.
I would stop eating it for while but the moment I tasted it again, I over indulged. Then I stumbled upon zucchini noodles on the internet and tried it and though I loved the taste, i couldn’t completely forget my noodles.
My solution: I started by replacing spaghetti made with refined flour with whole wheat spaghetti. Then I mixed zucchini noodles and spaghetti in a 1:1 ratio. Then in a 3:1 ratio and that solved the problem.
For those of you who do not know this veggie, zucchini or courgette is a summer squash which is loaded with nutrients but very low in calories. With only 17 calories per 100 grams, it is a great alternative to pasta which has 158 calories in 100 grams.
Healthy lifestyle tip: Make 3/4 of your noodles with vegetables like zucchini, carrots or any other veggie you love and add 1/4 whole wheat noodles.
Doing this you reduce the energy density of your meal by more than half making it calorie lighter and great for weight loss and weight maintenance. You eat more food (in volume) but less in calories. Enjoy your noodles with any sauce of choice.
Happy and healthy cooking xoxo
